Pair of elaborate annotated companion photo albums compiled by a dedicated “train spotter,” with a total of 80 photographs depicting an array of Eastern European locomotives from the 1910s-1960s. Provides a unique record of communist locomotives, including numerous steam engines. All photographs by Gerhard Illner (a.k.a. Jllner). Illner was a well-known DDR photojournalist and official state photographer of the East German Railroad. His works are part of the permanent collection Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Leipzig and documented in Müller, Hans, Alte Meister der Eisenbahn-Photographie: Gerhad Illner: Das Werk des Leipziger Bildreporters (EK Verlag: 2011).
