MF 001 | Dress Me Up, I’m your Bellboy

Blas, A. Ruy and Fils, A. Meillon
Drawings of Uniforms and Accessory Designs

Superb collection of drawings used to illustrate designs by the French firm, located at 6, Rue Hippolyte-Lebas, Paris: Maison Speciale d’Habillements Administratifs et Militaire, “Aux Phares de la Bastille”. The placards include designs for chauffeurs, butlers, waiters, a porter, and a house servant. The artist had a brilliant eye for clothing and figures, and the designs are cleanly and sharply executed with great attention to detail. All the plates are figurative with the exception of one, which shows in detail six types of leggings.

Format 5.5” x 9” (14 x 22.9 cm)Housed in a custom cloth clamshell case backed with parchment vellum and stamped in gilt.

Extent 19 drawings

Condition Some of the plates are a bit smudged; most have glue remnants at top margin of verso only, and several have tack holes to upper tips, as if they were once tipped onto a wall, but the images are sharp and clean; very good to near fine.

Published Paris: [ca. 1910]
